He’d ask how we were doing and how things were going on certain projects. My Tio made it a point to check in on us. My Tio had a great sense of humor and I enjoyed our talks. Tio and Tia were here in Phoenix May of 2019 to celebrate my niece’s high school graduation and I was so happy we could also celebrate my birthday together, look at old family photos and take a professional family photo. Tio and Tía celebrated our graduations with us and I will always be grateful for that. I also remember when I was learning how to drive, my Tio was brave enough to come along.) Although we lived far apart, I’ll always treasure the memories and the time that we spent together including our trip to Hawaii to visit the family when I was a young child, our Christmas reunions, summers visiting the family at the house on Chase Hill in San Antonio, and trip with the family to Glorietta. Omar leaves behind a loving wife, Emilia, son Omar Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Esther Hernandez and his sister, Elia Omega Hernandez. He loved the Lord and was a faithful servant and leader in his walk with God and family, serving in the church diligently. Omar had a great sense of humor and would constantly share that with his family and friends. Omar was known for his unmistakable “booming laugh.” No matter where he was, if it was funny, he could not hold back. He and his family moved to various locations as he worked as an engineer in the petroleum industry, spending time in Tulsa, San Antonio, Lima, Peru and finally settling in the Fort Worth, TX area. Omar continued on to earn his Master’s of Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1978. While in Hawaii, Omar and Emilia bore their second child, Monica. He served honorably for four years, earning the rank of Lieutenant JG. Upon completion, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1974. During that same year, he attended Officer Candidate School with the United States Navy both in New Port, RI and Port Hueneme, CA. During these years he met and married Emilia Jasso of New Mexico and had their son, Omar Jr. Omar attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM where he received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1973.
